Buy Online “Etch a Sketch” Case – Ohio Art Takes the iPad Back in Time

Online "Etch a Sketch"
Let’s face it, iPad cases that don’t have attached keyboards, Bluetooth connectivity, or carbon fiber and titanium construction aren’t really that popular.  People who buy iPads tend to be purists and want to show off the sleek Apple design that makes the product so unique.  However, is there anybody in the world who could resist the siren call of their 8-year old self?  Ohio Art is hoping not because they’ve released an official Etch A Sketch case for the iPad.  But what does it do?  That’s the question.
The answer is:  nothing.  While the case is a near-perfect (as can be) reproduction of the popular children’s toy (or creative outlet if you prefer to think of it that way) it brings nothing to the table other than some flashy red plastic and fake white knobs.
Sure, there are some “grippy” rubber feet and a couple of kick stands in the back so you can tilt your iPad (though they only lift the top edge an inch or so) and the felt back won’t scratch your hardwood surfaces but that’s it.  There’s no electronics in the case, no pop-out keyboard, no titanium inner shell—it’s plastic and if you drop it, it will break.
So what would possess anyone to shell out a whopping $38 for one of these?  Nostalgia.  They are, after all, pretty cool looking.
So if you want to be the first kid on your block to get your hands on one of these, head over to Headcase and drop some dough.  While you’re there you can also buy Etch A Sketch cases for your iPhone 4 and  iPhone 3 as well

Sony Corporation today has announced the next-generation PlayStation Portable (PSP) codename NGP which feature a Quad-Core Cortex-A9 processor, and a Quad-Core PowerVR SGX543MP+ GPU.
The next-gen PSP is probably the most powerful handheld to date, but unfortunately, it wont be available until this holiday season.
Full specs sheet is as follows:
Press release is as follows:
Ultimate Portable Entertainment System Makes Its Debut This Year,
Further Expanding the PlayStation® Business in the Portable Gaming Market
Tokyo, January 27, 2011– Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced its next generation portable entertainment system (codename: NGP), which delivers the ultimate portable entertainment experience. NGP will make its debut at the end of the year 2011.
NGP is designed to offer unparalleled interactive entertainment that is only possible on PlayStation®. This new system offers a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real world context, made possible by leveraging SCE’s experience from both PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) and PlayStation®3 (PS3®) entertainment systems.
Deep and immersive gaming is at the core of PlayStation’s DNA, and NGP is the latest embodiment of this vision. By having both Wi-Fi and 3G network connectivity, together with various applications, NGP will enable infinite possibilities for users to "encounter," "connect," "discover," "share" and "play" with friends wherever they are. Within the device are a range of features that provide a genuinely cutting-edge, next generation ultimate portable entertainment experience.
・Stunning OLED and Revolutionary User Interface
NGP incorporates a beautiful multi-touch 5-inch organic light emitting display (OLED) as the front display. A high-performance CPU / GPU combined with OLED enables rich, visually striking graphics never seen before on a portable entertainment system, for both games and other digital entertainment content. The new system also incorporates a unique multi-touch pad on the rear, and together with the front touch display, NGP offers new game play allowing users to interact directly with games in three dimension-like motion, through "touch, grab, trace, push and pull" moves of the fingers.
・Super Oval Design and Dual Analog Sticks
While succeeding the basic design philosophy of PSP, NGP adopts the Super Oval Design form factor, created to fit comfortably in users’ hands. For the first time, a portable entertainment system will feature two analog sticks, which enable a wider range of game genres to be brought into the portable experience.
Every game title for NGP will be provided with a space called "LiveArea™" where users can share the fun and excitement with other players. Users will have access to the latest information of games provided from SCE and 3rd party developers and publishers through PlayStation®Network. Additionally, NGP users will be able to view an "Activity" log that is constantly updated with accomplishments from users who are playing the same game, which in turn can trigger active real-time communication among users.
SCE will also provide location-based services on NGP as part of the basic features utilizing PlayStation Network. The new application called "Near," developed specifically for this service and the network, will be pre-installed in the system to let users find out what their friends in the vicinity are playing now or what they were playing recently. Users can meet their friends and new players virtually, regardless of what games they are playing, simply by sharing their game information across different dimensions of time and distance.
・New Game Medium
NGP adopts a new game medium, a small flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles. Taking advantage of the flash memory feature, this innovative card can store the full software titles plus add-on game content or the game save data directly on to the card. By adopting flash memory based card, SCE will be able to provide game cards with higher capacity in the future, allowing developers to store more game data to deliver rich and immersive games.
NGP will also come equipped with two cameras on its front and rear, as well as three motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass, all of which are designed to enable users to enjoy the world of entertainment that is linked with real life experiences.
PlayStation®Suite (PS Suite), announced today, will also closely coordinate with NGP. The newly developed and released game content for Android™ based portable devices can also be enjoyed on NGP. As a result, users will have access to not only the most leading-edge content, but also some of the more casual experiences that typify the mobile market place.
SCE will vigorously promote NGP towards the launch as the next generation portable entertainment platform and deploy various measures to further expand the portable gaming market.

How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3 on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch [Guide]

Here’s what you will need:
  • PwnageTool 4.1.2
  • Access to iOS 4.3 Beta firmware
  • iTunes 10.1.1
  • Mac OS X
  • PwnageTool bundle for iPhone 4, iPad or iPod touch 4G
  • Cydia is fully working on iOS 4.3 Beta.
  • It is a semi-tethered jailbreak.
  • Your baseband will not be upgraded during restore process.
WARNING: The jailbreaking procedure is complex, and hence is meant for advanced users only. It will require you to make your own ramdisk because the latest official version of PwnageTool makes a broken one for iOS 4.3. Proceed at your own risk only. We are not to be held responsible if you end up bricking your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Modifying PwnageTool
Step 1: Download PwnageTool bundle for your version of iOS device. Extract the .zip folder, in there you will find two files: CydiaInstaller.bundle and a .bundle file, for this guide, we are using iPhone 4 bundle iPhone3, 1_4.3_8F5148b.bundle. Move all these files to your desktop.
Step 2: Download PwnageTool 4.1.2 and copy it to your desktop. Right click, and then click on “Show Package Contents” as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 9: PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken.
PwnageTool 4.3 (2)
Step 10: Once you have created the custom firmware, quit PwnageTool. Don’t restore to this firmware yet.
Creating Custom Ramdisk for iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware
Step 11: Download by DjayB6, extract the file, and move the folder to your desktop.
Step 12: Now open file, and edit the paths required in a program like TextEdit, as shown highlighted in the screenshot below.
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (3)
Step 13: Now start Terminal and run the following commands:
cd desktop
cd ramdisk_maker
Now from here on, this automated script in Terminal will guide you on what to do next as shown highlighted in the screenshot below.
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (4)
Step 14: First, create a folder on desktop named My_Ramdisk. Then change the extension of the original iOS 4.3 Beta file from .ipsw to .zip, and then extract this .zip file.
Step 15: Here you will see a file named 038-0408-002.dmg. This is the file we need. Copy this file to My_Ramdisk folder that you created on desktop.
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (6)
Step 16: Once you have done that, you will notice that Terminal screen will automatically move to the next step as shown in the screenshot below.
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (7)
Step 17: Now go to ramdisk_maker folder that you saved earlier on desktop, here open the file Options.plist in a program like TextWrangler (available for free on the Mac App Store). Here change the <integer></integer> value under SystemPartitionSize <key></key> to 1116, as also shown highlighted in the screenshot below.
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (8)
Step 18: Now save this Options.plist file and move it to My_Ramdisk folder. At this point, you will once again notice that Terminal will automatically move to complete the process.
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (9)
Step 19: Once done, you will now notice a new file named final_ramdisk.dmg in My_Ramdiskfolder. Rename this file as 038-0408-002.dmg
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (10)
Step 20: Now change the extension of the custom iOS 4.3 Beta firmware file that you created earlier from .ipsw to .zip, and then extract this .zip file.
Step 21: Here, replace 038-0408-002.dmg file with the one you created in Step 19 above.

Restore iOS 4.3 Custom Firmware Using iTunes
Step 23: Start iTunes, click on your iOS device icon from the sidebar in iTunes. Now press and hold left “alt” (option) button on Mac, or Left “Shift” button if you are on Windows on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release this button.
Update iPhone 4 4.2.1 (4)
This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your custom firmware 4.3 file. Select the required custom .ipsw file that you created in Step 22 above, and click on “Open”.
Step 24: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 4.3 on your iOS device. Your iOS device screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.
Booting in Tethered Mode
Last but not the least, since there is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3 yet, we will have to boot it into a tethered jailbroken state. To do this, we will make use of a utility named “tetheredboot” as shown in the steps below.
Step 25: Download utility for Mac OS X and extract the .zip file.
Step 26: First, we will need three files from the original iOS 4.3 Beta firmware namely:kernelcache.release.n90iBEC.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu, and iBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu.
Change the extension of the original iOS 4.3 Beta file from .ipsw to .zip, like you did in Step 14 above, and then extract this .zip file.
Now copy kernelcache.release.n90 file, and then copy iBEC.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu, andiBSS.n90ap.RELEASE.dfu files which are found under /Firmware/dfu/.
Move all these three files, and tetheredboot utility to a new folder named “tetheredboot” on the desktop as shown in the screenshot below.
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (14)
Step 27: Now to boot your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch into tethered mode, connect it with your computer and start it in Recovery Mode by holding Home and Power buttons until the connect to iTunes screen appears on your device.
iOS 4.2.1 Recovery Mode
Step 28: Start Terminal and run the following commands:
sudo sh
enter your administrator password, then:
cd desktop/tetheredboot
./tetheredboot iBSS kernel
Jailbreak iOS 4.3 (13)
You should now see some code running in the Terminal windows, at some point, it will ask you to enter DFU mode. Now follow the following steps to enter DFU mode:
  • Hold Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds
  • Now release the Power button but continue holding the Home button for 10 more seconds
  • You device should now be in DFU mode
Now wait for your device to boot, Terminal at this point will be showing “Exiting libpois0n” message. After a short while, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be booted in a jailbroken tethered mode !

Apple and News Corp To Hold The Daily iPad Newspaper Event On 2nd February

It’s official: Apple and News Corp will be holding a media event to announce The Daily on February 2nd, writes The Loop.
Invites have gone out to media outlets inviting them to join CEO Rupert Murdoch at the event.
The Daily is the much-rumored subscription-based iPad newspaper that will cost $0.99 a week and use a new subscription payment system inside iTunes. Presumably a new version of Apple’s jukebox app will also be made available.

DeepEnd Adds 3D Effect To Your iPhone Homescreen Wallpaper [Jailbreak Tweak]

We recently told you all about 3DBoard, a jailbreak tweak that gives your iPhone that 3D effect. Now there’s a new kid on the block, and it’s called DeepEnd.
Coded by the well known developer Ryan Petrich, DeepEnd works just as expected. Using your iPhone 4′s gyroscope it appears to change your iPhone’s screen orientation based on the angle you hold your handset at.
The best part? DeepEnd is free once you add this repo to Cydia -
You will, of course, need to have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch to install it. Follow our step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with Redsn0w on iOS 4.2.1, or with Limera1n on iOS 4.1, or with PwnageTool on iOS 4.3 if you haven’t already.

New Untethered Jailbreak Vulnerability Discovered for iOS 4.2.1 / 4.3

Pod2g, the guy behind SHAtter and the untethered iOS 4.2.1 exploit for GreenPois0n has discovered yet another vulnerability in iOS for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch which can possibly be used on iOS 4.2.1 and 4.3 as well.
Hey, another untethered vulnerability found !
Look at the registers, all are controllable
At this point though, it is unclear on whether the vulnerability found is in the bootrom likeLimera1n, or if it is of the userland nature.
Since the upcoming version of GreenPois0n is already set to bring untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, this vulnerability is likely going to be saved for the future firmwares like iOS 4.3 and beyond.

Redsn0w 0.9.7 for Windows Will Untether iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak with iOS 4.1 Firmware. Expected to Release Soon

The iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that a Windows version of Redsn0w 0.9.7 is on its way forjailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 with iOS 4.1 IPSW instead of iOS 4.2b3 firmware and SHSH blobs
iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak
Since Apple still serves the 4.1 IPSW (not blobs!), we’ll do a Windows redsn0w release for untethered 4.2.1 via Monte-4.1
Unfortunately though, it wont be as fast as its Mac OS X counterpart. This is because the Windows version of Redsn0w 0.9.7 will be using filesystem instead of RAM, which will make the process a whole a lot slower.
Please don’t complain too loudly about how slow it takes  The Win version uses filesystem instead of RAM: slow!
As always, we will keep you updated. Stay tuned for more!

PS3 Firmware 3.56 Hacked / Jailbroken In Less Than 24 Hours !

Well that didn’t take long! As Engadget reports, Sony’s latest PS3 firmware v3.56 has been hacked in just 24 hours after its release.
With Sony obtaining a restraining order against hacking master George (Geohot) Hotz, it was left to KaKaRoToKS to work the magic, and the community was not disappointed. He hasposted the signing keys online, and so it is now only a matter of time when custom firmwares for 3.56 are released.
CVG explains:
Wii hacker Youness Alaoui, also known as KaKaRoToKs, announced on Twitter that he’d successfully unpacked the firmware and published its signing keys, opening the door for new custom firmware to be created that would mimic the latest update and allow hacked PS3s to regain access to PSN.
Presumably this will now lead to another update coming for the PlayStation 3 with Sony hoping to close the door once and for all.
Of course, they haven’t managed it yet so I wouldn’t hold your breath just yet!

RecoveryGuard Stops Accidental iOS Updates For Jailbroken iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

We’ve all done it: connected a jailbroken iOS device to iTunes and watched in horror as it’s merrily started to update when you accidentally stabbed at the wrong button. No more, for there’s now a solution in the form of RecoveryGuard.
Installing this little tweak on your jailbroken iDevice makes the hardware fool iTunes into thinking it always has the latest version of iOS. No more accidental updates. Simple!
This is a new app to us here at RedmondPie and thanks to iH8sn0w for the nod!
So how do you get it? Well…
Launch Cydia and add the following as a source: Once added just refresh and search for RecoveryGuard. Hey presto!

3DBoard – The Glasses-Free 3D Homescreen for iPhone Is Now Available For Download

We told you recently about a funky new jailbreak app called 3DBoard that promises to give your iPhone’s home screen that 3D effect. Well now it is available for download on the Cydia Store for jailbroken iPhones.
3DBoard for iPhone
You will, of course, need to have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch to install it. Follow our step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with Redsn0w on iOS 4.2.1, or with Limera1n on iOS 4.1, or with PwnageTool on iOS 4.3 if you haven’t already.
3DBoard is available for $2.99 on the BigBoss repository.
Thanks to Alexander Furman for the heads-up!
