Install Android 3.0 Honeycomb On Samsung Google Nexus S [Guide]

Google Nexus S has been hacked to run a full SDK port of Android 3.0 Honeycomb courtesy of developers and hackers at XDA. Jroid, XDA forum member and developer, is the primary brain behind this Nexus S Honeycomb port who further credits jumaaneface and Master for lending a helping hand in the development. For now Touchscreen, USB mount and SD card are declared as working fine with the developer claiming a smooth sail of apps [No Force Closings] within the port.

However there are reports that the screen flickers unnecessarily with some instances of touch inputs malfunctioning. Here is a list of what doesn’t work in this Android 3.0 Honeycomb ROM for Samsung Nexus S:
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Hardware Acceleration
  • Camera
  • Audio
  • Auto Rotation
Before we embark on flashing instructions, please note that this ROM isn’t ready for your prime time usage and if you don’t want a half-bricked phone; do not install it. Developers are hard at work on bringing stability and more functionality to this port and soon there will be something more stable and reliable.

Here are the step by step instructions to Install Honeycomb SDK build on your Samsung / Google Nexus S:
You need to have root on your phone before doing anything else. Please follow the guide posted here for step by step instructions regarding rooting Nexus S.
  1. The first step is to download the ROM zip file from here and save it on your desktop.
  2. Once done, launch Market on your phone and download ROM Manager.
  3. After the ROM Manager is installed on your phone, launch the application and tap on install the latest ClockworkMod Recovery. Please note that this ROM requires you to be on CWM Recovery 3.005 version.
  4. Once recovery is installed / flashed on your phone, connect your phone to the computer and copy the earlier downloaded ROM zip file to internal memory.
  5. Now reboot your device in recovery from ROM Manager.
  6. Once you are in recovery, scroll down to backup and restores option. Now make a complete backup of your phone because it will be your only resort if anything messes up.
  7. Once the backup has been made, go to recoveries main menu and follow onscreen instructions to perform a complete Wipe. It is recommended that you also Wipe Delvik Cache.
  8. After you are done wiping your device, select Flash ROM from SD card from recovery main menu and scroll down to the location where you copied the ROM file.
  9. Now install the ROM file following onscreen flashing instructions.
  10. Once the installation is complete, reboot your phone in normal mode from recovery.
And hopefully you’ll boot in the awesomeness of Honeycomb! In case you need developer support, want to provide feedback or need more information, then please consult the official XDA ROM thread posted here.
